BMW Motorrad Philippines

For the first time in the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy history, a Filipino rider will be joining as one of the official members of the Southeast Asian team. Aris Cuevas has emerged as the top victor of the 2017 GS Trophy Southeast Asia Qualifier, held last September 2, 2017 in Thailand. Along with two other champions from Thailand and Malaysia, they will be vying against riders from different countries at the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2018 in Mongolia.

A total of 30 riders battled it out at the 2017 GS Trophy Southeast Asia Qualifier—grouped into 10 teams with 3 members each. Aris and two other Filipino riders Derrick Itchon and Leother Valderama were placed into separate teams made up of 1 Filipino and 2 Thai members. The 10 teams, along with an all-female group, then braved through intense riding challenges.
Aris and his team faced and endured through decisive and action-packed activities that heavily tested teamwork, navigation, technical skills, bike handling, knowledge, and riding competency.
The most formidable stage for all riders, however, was the individual riding challenge that happened immediately after the morning sessions wherein the 30 participants were down to only 15 qualifiers. This was when Aris Cuevas got selected as the only Filipino to progress to the next challenge while the other 2 Filipinos were eliminated at this point. The remaining 15 qualifying riders were faced with a severely difficult stage. But by the end of the day, Aris, with a total score of 137, was able to grasp victory against the rest of the pack winning him his spot as an official member and contender of the 2018 Southeast Asia GS Trophy Team.
The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy is the most extreme and adventurous riding competition for riders across the globe. Catch Aris Cuevas in the BMW Xpo at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on September 16, 2017 and stay tuned for more news and updates for this highly-awaited worldwide event.
